Foliar diseases

Foliar diseases include mainly fungal pathogens such as cercospora leaf spot (CLS), powdery mildew, rust and ramularia. Virus yellows, which are transmitted by aphids’ vectors, can also be added to this section since they induce a yellowing of sugar beet leaves. Control of CLS and virus yellows are two major research issues at ITB, considering their current importance and the lack of available efficient solutions. ITB trials include the assessment of partially resistant varieties as well as new active substances, whether conventional or organic.
